In the News: Brookings Institution Panel

Michael Carter with Cecilia Rouse of President Obama's Council of Economic Advisors, right, and Jenny Nagaoka of the Consortium on Chicago School Research. Michael spoke about the importance of grassroots efforts in changing the culture of high schools. Other speakers were Sheri Ranis of the Gates Foundation, Mark Dynarski of Mathematica Research, and Grover Whitehurst of the Brookings Institution.

Strive for College Founder Michael Carter spoke at a Brookings Institution panel in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, May 14, about the role of high schools in preparing students for higher education.

"There are a lot of low income kids who don’t go to four year colleges, and there are millions more who should go to better colleges than they do or get better aid than they do and they just don’t know. And to me that’s an injustice because they’ve earned it."
